Blue Eagles itch to return top
Blue Eagles coach Deklerk Msakakuona is relishing a return to the summit of the TNM Super League when they host Civil Service (Civo) United at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.
The Area 30-based cops—who set the pace by winning six games on the trot—were overtaken by Silver Strikers last weekend.
Eagles are second with 18 points from eight games—just a point short of the Bankers—but they have a one game cushion.
“The short break gave us a chance to recover after two successive league losses and now we are ready to rumble.
“We are looking forward to reclaiming the top position, but it will be a tough game,” said Msakakuona, adding that they will, however, be without two key players Elia Kabingu and Daniel Phiri who are nursing injuries.
But the cops can still look up to their current leading scorer Maxwell Salambula and Dick Malidadi Jnr.
On the other hand, Civo coach Milias Pofera Jegwe said they are hoping to continue their winning form. Raphael Phiri and Nelson Kangunje carry their hopes.
Civo are on position eight with 12 points from nine games having won three, drawn three as well and lost the same number of games.
At Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, Azam Tigers are hoping to recover from their shock 1-2 victory at the hands of rookies Dwangwa United last weekend, when they face revitalised Kamuzu Barracks while third-placed Mzuni host Epac FC at Mzuzu Stadium. Mzuni have 16 points from nine games.
At Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa, it will be an all-soldiers affair when Mafco engage Moyale Barracks. Mafco’s talisman and the league’s joint leading scorer Richard Mbulu will be the man to watch while Gastin Simkonda will be hoping to make his first full appearance for Moyale following his return from military duties abroad. n
